Defibrillator to help community thanks to Wish List
Published: Monday 2 February 2026
A potentially life-saving defibrillator has been installed in Hamilton – thanks to the council’s Community Wish List.
Supporting Our Community (SOC), based in Hillhouse, got in touch through the Community Wish List website to request the defibrillator.
Unite the Union agreed to provide the equipment which can potentially save lives in an emergency.
Mark Rouse, Project Coordinator for SOC, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Unite for their support. Having a defibrillator accessible at our centre provides reassurance and could save someone’s life. This donation reflects our shared commitment to improving our community
“The charity extends heartfelt thanks to Unite for their commitment to supporting local people and enhancing community wellbeing.”
Unite the Union Branch Chair Leanne Thomson said: "Unite the Union NHS Lanarkshire Branch is very proud to donate this defibrillator, funded by our branch members, in support of SOC.
“SOC is a hub of activity and support at the heart of the community, and as a branch whose members live and work locally, it’s important to us to give something back by ensuring life-saving equipment is available in a place so many people rely on.”
Chair of the council's Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: "This is another great example of the Community Wish List and the benefits it can bring to local communities and organisations.
"I would like to thank those who have so generously donated so far."
